The Glow

This project was a re-creation of Steven Gosling's "Glowing Embers" photograph. My version (below) Orginal photograph (above)

Artist History Recreation

I chose to do my Art History recreation on Rene Magritte's 'The Son of Man'. I've always really admired Magritte's style and his recognizable suited man figures. I thought it was a classical art piece that I could translate well through photoshop.

The real "The Son of Man"

...And my redo.

Fernando Botero

This painting is called "Princesa Margarita" and was created by Colombian artist Fernando Botero. I reinterpreted his creation by manipulating an original drawing of mine into his infamous "fat" style. Playing with the liquify tool was a lot of fun, and I am content with how the dress came out looking like satin. The airbrush was also a crucial tool when it came to creating fleshy skin tones.

(original)

The Mermaid

This is "The Mermaid" by J.W. Waterhouse. Everytime I see one of his paintings I wonder how he makes his subjects look so real and flawless... It was a good learning experience sampling his colors and crazy to think about all the time and detail he put into everything. The man was a genius. I think I made the mermaid look a little goonish. But it was fun to use the stylus.

My Version of Yo Picasso

This is my digital reproduction of Picasso's 1901 self portrait, my Picasso. I put a little of my own spin on it and also used this piece to get familiar with using the stylus, so it was a bit of a learning curve as well. Here it is.

Recreation

Here is my more modern take on Hokusai's Great Wave of Kawangawa.

Recreation: Gymnast!

So, I choose to do mine as a gymnast from I think it was the bejing olympics. My friend posed for it, and I corrected certian parts of her body to match a little more with the picture, but of course couldn't change her whole body without messing all the lines up. I used gradient and lighting on the background, and just tried to get as close as I could but still putting my own spin onto it.
Below is the picture that it is recreated from:

Jasper Johns Interpretation

When I was looking for a well known piece of art to use for this project I knew I wanted it to be abstract. I had to research Jasper Johns for another class and I found a picture of "white flag" in a book. I instantly wanted to try to recreate this piece. I really enjoy how it came out.

Gig Poster

Gig poster for Eyes Set to Kill.
(This is just a mock gig poster, so the gig is not real.
)
Inspired by the band, I made the gig poster based on the genre of music and their CD covers. I did the girl and the window with vector, free-handed. As for the logo, I attempted to create their exact logo based off their font and my Photoshop skills. The logo is made by its font, Edwardian Script ITC, and changed around so it matched the logo. As for the other text, I just gave the text a black border to make the text stand out. The tree branches and swirls are done with brushes I downloaded off of Aethereality.net. That is all.

Vampire Weekend gig poster!

I was reallllllllly excited about this project because it's sort of exactly the reason that I wanted to take this class. I have always admired the freedom of creation that most bands seem to give artists when they're designing gig posters, and it is something I have always wanted to do.
Playing around with the colors and opacity was a lot of fun and gave me the effect I wanted. I originally drew the image myself with paper and pen, scanned it, and then vectored over it. I used the type tool as well, but I had a hard time getting the words on the bottle how I wanted. Hope you guys like it! Oh, and check Vampire Weekend out. They're amazing.

I really need to update this...

This is my statement project. I did it on the topic of GMOs or Genetically modified organisms, usually referring to food. Most of you may have been eating GMOs for years without even knowing they existed, which is why they are so dangerous. The lack of knowledge we possess on tampering with the genetics of the food we consume is something that needs to be addressed and known by all consumers. On a lighter note, I don't like to be too serious about too much, so I took a more playful approach with my GMO project.

Collage!

I just realized I forgot to put up my collage project as well! Here it is :)

Band Poster

Some of my friends are in a band called Jam Face and they will be having a performance on Earth Day at Lower Pond during sunset. The character playing the guitar was all done using vector graphing.

Gig Poster - Marilyn Manson

Matisyahu Gig Poster

Rise of the Gammas

You know that drunk person at the party who is super loud and entertaining? Thats the alpha drunk. The beta drunk is the guy who is hanging out with the alpha drunk, making sure he or she doesn't fall over. The gamma drunk is in the corner wondering why they came to the party in the first place. Now apply this party scenario to everyday (non drunken) life. Rise of the Gammas is a tribute band to those folks standing in the corner: the seperate observers who think about stuff a lot, and one day reach their full potential as alpha-somethings. The fire is an image of the gamma rays over the Earth, and the vector-masked girls are from a Gamma sorority group photo. The ducks are the gammas of the animal kingdom. Please enjoy.

Gig Poster: Dented Personality

Gig Poster

My gig poster was done on an existing band that I have seen on this date at Higher Ground. Silversun Pickups is probably one of my favorite bands right now. They have a really awesome euphoric sound with insane guitar and bass riffs that just roll over and over. My main inspiration for this poster was based on the song "Panic Switch". The song it about having a nervous breakdown and essentially locking yourself in a room when you flip your "panic switch"-- the inability to calm down. I just wanted to illustrate roughness and a sense of panic through the vectoring: no lines are smooth, and the text is also jagged. In the music video for the song, one of the open shots is actually a guitar in almost the same angle. The guitar is white, along with the band member's wardrobe. There's also red light accompanying the full band playing shots. The gig poster reflect that point of the song and it's visual aspects.

Derick and the Snowbank Band

This assignment was to make a gig poster. I decided to make up a band name, called Derick and the Snowbank Band and make a poster for a potential up and comming performance. The rest of the poster explains itself.

Lecrae GIG poster

So, I did mine on LeCrae, a christian rapper from down south, and a bunch of my friends that know his music would like him to come up to Soulfest next year for Soulfest 2011 if possible, so I did my poster on him.
I wanted it to seem like a night scene, with the stars forming his name, and him 'break dancing' down the road. I wanted him embossed to look like he is in fact popping out.
What do you think???

My Statement

My political/social statement for this assignment is stopping child abuse. It's something I've always stood up for and such. These are just my images that I drew for this assignment.

Abuse in multi species

Together at Last

These are juxtapositions of images from priviledged and underpriviledged societies, in order to underscore the divide that exists in the world today. Those who are priviledged starve themselves by choice (Victoria Beckham is holding a mock burger in order to refute claims of anorexia), and are able to kill what they want when they want to. This next image begs the question: why would the people have so much stuff if they were starving. The answer is: they wouldn't. But WE have so much stuff when people are starving in the world... we just don't see them next to our hummers.
This was inspired by people who travel to foreign countries, and instead of volunteering they just have photo shoots of themselves next to the indigenous, hard working villagers. It makes me want to puke.

Olympics 2018

The International Olympic Committee has nominated Lake Placid, NY, home of the 1980 Winter Olympics, as a host for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Considering I live less than 20 miles from the Olympic town, I thought that this subject would be an interesting one to present.
