Collage Project
Indigenous Beings
For my third project, I used my own photography from Ecuador. Last July, some friends and I volunteered at an indigenous school in the capital city of Quito for three weeks. The amount of time that we spent there was a life changing experience that taught us a tremendous amount about the spirituality and beautiful culture of the Kichwa- the direct descendants of the Inca Empire. This piece represents the Kichwa's organic culture and rustic roots that have been altered by Spanish colonialism. I incorporated some Hindu-aspects to this piece, like the multiple arms and animal head, in order to portray these indigenous people as "higher-beings" - people on different levels of the human cautiousness. Since this is a collage project, I think adding the variations of limbs and body parts made it more visually intricate.

A Year of Travel
Last year I went to London, Paris, NYC and many SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism www.sca.org) events. This is a montage of all of those events from pics I took and a few I found if I didn't get good pics of whatever I wanted to use.
Happy Halloween Collage
For this assignment I chose to use this picture of this dam. I brushed out the light and placed some trees in there to make it look kind of like a dark scary forest Halloween type scene. I then placed a couple of people in various areas, a happy Halloween banner and I have the ATV falling off the dam.
Ducktron Saves the Day
"Ducktron Saves The Day" is a special tribute to all ducks that intervene between any innocent flower-toting toddlers and malevolent mullet-headed seagulls, because I'm sure a lot of ducks do. Most ducks are tender-hearted, courageous beings, and it would be an honor to be saved by one. Hopefully the child pictured here will grow up to become a duck-loving vegetarian on behalf of his indebtedness to the duck breed. As you can see, the small boy was just about to be pecked by this evil, gargantuan seagull, but was saved at the last second when Ducktron splendidly seized him by the mullet, thereby stealing all his evil powers. At the same time, flushing the evil seagull's tower down into the fountain of lily-padded DOOM. I am a concerned spectator in the background. Enjoy!
Montage Never Forget
I decided to take a more serious swing on this picture of the 9/11 attack on the twin towers. I wanted to see exactly what I could do, and decided this might be a good peice, and I had tried several other pictures, but didn't actually like the look and feel of them, but liked this one.
As you can see, its placed on the American Flag. The opacities of the various images in it are at different levels to giving the layered feeling, as well as the objects coming out from the flag as there were holes in the canvas, even though there isnt.
Collage Project
I decided that i did not want to create an image that shows a landscape or to create a funny picture. I wanted my image to look abstract, even if you could see that it is New York in the back ground. I would rather use my own photograph for my art work. I did not want to combine my images in the usual way, so I wanted to make it look as if the photographs were shredded and then put back together to create a vibrant image.

Sentence project
"In the future, humans will be colorful rebels..."
The Blushers
Toxic Onion
Toxic Onion
These images are straight out of my sketchbook. The sentence that I created translates well to my personal style because I've been primarily drawing people since my childhood. Many of the characters that I create seem to have ominous qualities, and in my opinion, give off an air of rebellion. I find large amounts of inspiration from fashion illustrations, animation, and dreaming. Incorporating color and developing facial expressions are my favorite parts of illustrating pictures. From this project, I furthered my understanding with the pen tool, layer masks, the clone stamps, adding drop shadows, and the airbrush.
Human Memory Debates all Time
The basic idea behind the whole sentence is that everyone has memories, and it's unbelievable the detail that go in to them, but how often we exclude WHEN it all happened. Was that the same day? Did I do that in 2007, or 2008? Weren't you there for that?!
These are all shopped photos that I've taken over the years in different locations, with different friends, in different mindsets.
I've always been in to collages and scrap booking pictures together, so I guess I just took that general idea and ran with it int he direction of surreal. Enjoy!

4 Words Assignment
War cry of a brave warrior
A bunny ate colored beans
My original idea was the first picture but after creating that one I couldn't find to many images with good resolution for the background so I went on to a different topic which I had pictures of my mom's rubarb patch which I added beans too, as it is hard to grow too many veggies at my parent's house because we are so close to the woods. The beans and bunny took alot of changing hues. The war cry pic was a pic I took at Pennsic an sca event http://www.pennsicwar.org/ and changed the sky a little to make it more epic and added in another pic I found of the trumpeter - which was very hard because I didn't know about layering at that point. Yes that is Ground's Keeper Willie in the last pic lol...

Excuse me, could we at least sculpt a perfect future?
After writing this sentence I originally thought that my images would be based on my notion of a "perfect future", or utopia. Instead, I decided to portray a few dystopic scenarios, as well as one utopian scenario.
"Beasts at a Waterhole" portrays a man who has gone down to the river to collect water in his kettle, but finds himself soaked after a dog that can actually walk on water tricks him into thinking it is a solid surface. The large dog in the background is the disgruntled observer, and beast of burden to the man, who has adorned him in sweater and rope. Both man and sweatered dog are in a state of dissatisfaction, while the fluffy dog on the right is happy with his successfull trickery. A perfect future for the man would allow him to walk on water, too.
"Let them eat Broccolli" is utopic (as far as I'm concerned). I would be happy to walk through the woods and discover brocolli growing off of the trees... even after summer had ended. The dog on the toadstool is a guardian angel who has led the man to the prize. All is well in the utopia of plentiful broccolli and miniature dog angels.

"I wanna fly too" is an unfortunate scenario for both characters. The owl is sitting next to a birdhouse with doors that are too small for it to enter, while a girl is trying to get at the owl so that she may fly away from the birdhouse. She will have to work up the courage to jump onto the owl's back, and even then it may fly away before she can reach it. A perfect future for her would be to fly on her own.
Assignment #2-Word Creation
The sentence that I created was:
Don’t cry over imperfect memories, look forward to sculpting a better future.
Once I created my sentence, I had a vision of making my three images look as if someone was going through a hopechest and taking out photographs and placing them on the floor. I wanted the image to look layered. I wanted it to look as if the person pilled their memories on top of eachother.
I feel that people focus on the negative aspects of their past. I don’t think people look forward to what might happen in the future.
The human with time will fight the war on snow.
For this project, I made up the sentence The human with time will fight the war on snow. The beginning sequential piece is a human staring down the snow in front of the house. From the picture, it seems to not be working too well. The second image is a snowplow in the night fighting the snow by pushing back the snowbanks. The last one is in the spring when the snow is melting, around the time which is called mud season. There is a happy sun welcoming spring in and a man welcoming in spring by doing some running. I also included some spring flowers that are starting to pop up near the snowbank as well. Well, there it is, With time, the human will fight the war on snow.
